Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Republic Serbia |

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Republic Serbia conducts agricultural husbandry registration. Only registered agricultural husbandries can use resources designated for grants, subventions and crediting, which are financed from the national budget, as well as services of governmental advisory services. Enrolling in the Registry of agricultural husbandries can be conducted by persons, agricultural enterprises, agricultural cooperatives, other subjects that are authorized for agricultural production and scientific and research organizations working on agricultural issues. Review of data from the Registry is officialy conducted by the agricultural inspection. |
Beside fields, orchards and pastures, other types of terrain that are usable for agricultural production can be also considered as agricultural land, such as fish ponds, reeds, and swamps. Agricultural husbandry must have at least 0.5 ares, but areas designated for fish production can be smaller. Republic Directorate for Waters, located within the Ministry, is responsible for all water protection and utilization related issues. Ministry also works on the agricultural development strategy and related programs and plans within the Ministry, provision of subventions, grants and credits, and on the establishment of agricultural stations network and development of the knowledge and experiences that will most efficiently reach producers. The National Park “Djerdap” |
The National Park "Djerdap" is located in South-eastern part of Europe, in Serbia, on the national border with Romania. Total area of the National Park is 63.608 ha, and 93.968 ha with the buffer zone.
The National Park "Djerdap" is the longest composite valley and the biggest and the oldest water breakthrough in Europe, including three gorges, two canyons, and three valleys, as well as the biggest, oldest and the best preserved refuge with the relict flora, fauna and vegetation. About 9% of the surface of the National Park, i.e. 5500 ha, accounts for the area along the Danube River. This makes the National Park "Djerdap" also a riverine national park. National Park was declared in 1974 and it stretches along the right bank of the Danube, for about 100 km, from the Golubac to Karatas near the Kladovo, covering a narrow strip of forested hills, about 2-8 km wide. |
![]() |
Directorate of the National Park is also responsible for the regulation and implementation of complete fish fauna protection on the National park territory and, due to their importance, protection of strugeon species has a special place in protective measures. National park also has a management authorization for one part of the fishery district "Danube III" (Park shares it with Public Enterprises "Srbijašume" and "Vojvodinašume"). "Hydroeletric Power Stations Djerdap" d.o.o. Kladovo |
During the period 1964-1985, two large hydroelectric power stations were constructed in the Djerdap gorge, "Djerdap I" and "Djerdap II". Dams were built in cooperation with Romania, and they are today a part of the Economic enterprise "Hydroelectric Power Stations Djerdap" d.o.o. Kladovo, which is a part of the Public Enterprise "Electrical Industry of Serbia". |
![]() |
Construction of the "Djerdap I" dam started in 1964, and the whole system became operational in 1972. As in the case of "Djerdap II" dam, it was built together with neighbouring Romania, based on the principle of equal participation in the construction and exploitation. Main structure of the "Djerdap I" complex is symmetrical, with the water overflow in the middle of the river course, and with one power station and a ship lock on each side of the dam. Six power units were installed in each power station, with the total power of 1140 МW. Before construction of the Hydropower and Navigational System "Djerdap", there was Sip channel located upstream. Ship locks are two-staged, 310 m long and 34 m wide. |
Construction of the "Djerdap II" dam started in 1977, and first power units became operational in April 1985. Complex consists of power station, ship lock, water overflow and a motorway over the dam. Installed power units have total power of 270 МW. Dams are situated at the 943 ("Djerdap I") and 863 river kilometer ("Djerdap II"). Electric power production within the d.o.o. Kladovo, reaching total value of 7365 GWh, represents 21% of the total electric power production within the Electrical Industry of Serbia, and 67% of the total hydropower potential of Serbia. Unfortunately, dam construction has hinderede migrations of anadromous sturgeon species to the upstream localities, where they used to spawn. Based on the existing knowledge, this represents one of the main threats for their survival. One of the possible solutions for this problem would be to enable their upstream and downstream passage at dams through the construction of fish passes, fish elevatros, etc. Nowadays, anadromous sturgeon species (beluga, stellate sturgeon and Russian sturgeon) can be caught on the territory of Republic Serbia only downstream from the "Djerdap II" dam, on 17.8 km long river stretch.
